Meet Christina J. Close
Welcome to the Engineering and Pageantry blog where I hope to encourage young women to study S.T.E.M. related fields while following my journey to capturing the Miss Florida USA crown. I’m Christina Close, 21-year-old full time college student working to attend the University of Florida’s bachelors program for Computer Science Engineering. I model part time, and enjoy competing in pageants. My pageant career began when I won the Miss Okeechobee County Teen USA pageant in 2011, and continued on to compete at the State Competition- Miss Florida Teen USA 2012 where I placed in the top 16 out of about 81 contestants. After my first year competing at Miss Florida Teen USA, I knew pageantry was something I was going to continue forward with, so I competed in the Miss Collier County USA 2012 pageant, then qualified for the Miss Florida USA 2013 pageant, where I competed and although I didn’t win, my best friend that year in the competition (Michelle Aguirre) did-which was the equivalence of winning for me! But after two straight years of competing I decided to shift my focus toward school, and I am now closer than I’ve ever been to attending my dream school and I cannot wait to be on that stage competing again! I enjoy study Engineering because I’ve always wondered how things are made, or how they work. Also, I grew up with a contractor for a dad- so I’ve always been intrigued by progress, efficiency, and numbers. Tiaras, heels and gowns aren’t the first thing that typically comes to mind when one hears the word “engineering”, it’s been a great and powerful journey with many exciting opportunities to come.
